Reptiles

Some pictures can show Reptiles feeding do not continue if this will upset you.

This is Mia the baby corn snake

Just for all you snake lovers out there, here is Keira the Carpet Python she is two years old and 5 1/2 feet long, once fully grown she should be around 8 feet long and twice as thick, I know she's not everyone's cup of tea, but I must say she has an excellent temperament and likes being handled. 13/02/07

This is Tegan being fed and is his third rat, which was defrosted from frozen they were meant for Kira but she wasn't interested and although they were a bit smaller then he would normally have, he was happy with them and I did not want the food going to waist, the color is a bit strange because he is under the heat lamp.

This is Jade a Carpet Python she is 7 1/2 feet long, and came from a rescue centre she has three egg sized lumps on her body where someone put her in with a large Burmese python, it laid on her giving her the hernias.

This is Tara the baby Hog nosed snake who is 8 inches long, Tara will grow up to 3 foot long, she is venomous but if she bites its only as bad as a bee sting, luckily they are a very docile snake, I put on four pictures of Tara so you can get a good idea of how interesting she is, she looks like a rattle snake in the second picture, which is there defense mechanism if that fails to scare you away they fall on there back with there mouth open and there tongue hanging out pretending to be dead. 08/01/08

Below is a picture of Riley a two year old Burmese Python, he came from a rescue and is 10 feet long to give you an idea of the size of his head he is resting it on an adult size 6 foot, at this size he could kill an adult human and is never handled alone without someone else being in the house, despite his 100 teeth and the strength to kill, he likes nothing more then curling up in someone's lap. 13/01/08

Burmese Pythons are not a snake to be taken on lightly, females can reach a length of 20 feet, if fed well and if you thought all snakes have a couple of fangs take a good look at the picture below of a Burmese Pythons skull, if you want a pet snake, pick a smaller type, if I was into snakes and I'm not I would pick the Hog nose. 13/01/08

Below is Kiera a young red Tegu, one of the biggest type of Tegu's, she is two foot long at the moment and very friendly, when she is an adult Kiera will get her red color. And will be up to four foot long and over a stone in weight. 09/04/08

Below is Kiera in the bath having a swim although once she is fully grown she will be almost as long as the bath 18/04/08

Below is Kiera relaxing after her swim she enjoys having her belly rubbed whilst laying on her back, well whatever makes her happy 18/04/08

Below is Heather and James both volunteers with the Dangerous Wild Animal Rescue Facility, with Riley. 24/04/08

Below is a picture of Kiera and her new friend Tegan also a red Tegu, Kiera is just 10 months old and 25 inches long, Tegan is two and a half years old and 38 inches long, they will get to there full size between three and a half to four years of age 16/05/08

Below is Tegan because of his age, his red color is more pronounced 16/05/08

Kiera has some growing to do to get as big as Tegan but even Tegan isn't fully grown 16/05/08

Below is two pictures of Tegan after he had been in the bath, we saw a picture of a red Tegu on its back, on the web and thought it was dead because its not natural for a lizard to do that, that's before we got Tegu's, how wrong we were, as you can see we are not holding him down. 31/05/08

Below are two pictures of Angel a lavender King snake, I put the second picture on because it shows her true color, don't know if its a boy or a girl but I must say its a very girlie color. 26/07/08

Below is a female bearded dragon called Jess, she was left at a pet shop that knew of a reptile rescue by its owner a women, who said they were bored of it, she was taken to the vet because she has six lumps, the vet said Jess had not been given the correct diet, light or heat which led to the six abcesses, she will need to be kept correctly and built up for a month before he will even think of an operation. (31/07/08)

Jess saw the vet and because she shed with four of the small abcessess coming off and was doing so well, he decided to operate on the large abcessess, see below, she is still on antibiotics and it will need cleaning several times a day, the vet has never seen anything like it before, no good owner would let it get so big or leave it so long, so none of us would like to guess at the outcome but we can hope. (14/08/08)

Below is a picture of Jess, the wound has been cleaned every day and loose infected tissue removed every other day, and is still on antibiotics, looking at this picture, its amazing that I can say it looks better, I think the owner of the local reptile shop put it perfectly when he saw the picture above, he said "it looks like a volcano" Jess is looking well, we did give her a 30% chance of survival after the operation but now its up to 75% Jess still has a long way to go, but we are very hopeful (20/08/08)

SADLY JESS HAD TO BE PTS ON 5/10/08

Here is Tara the Hog Nosed snake, 8 months older and 7 inches longer then in her previous picture near the top of the page. (27/09/08)

Below are two pictures of a 4 foot female Mangrove snake, the color tells you something about this snake, its aggressive fast and mildly venomous, full grown she will get to around 8 foot and even though its just been taken off the dangerous wild animal list and doesn't need a license you wouldn't want to take a bite off it. (16/10/08)

Below are pictures of a 5 1/2 foot female white banded Mangrove snake (27/11/08)

Below is Riley in his vivarium, he will soon be in his new viv which is 6 times the size (29/03/09)

Below is Tegan, who is 37 inch's long in his new enclosure and on a log. (15/5/09)

Pictures below is Riley in his new vivarium, it is not finished needing a lot more decoration but we couldn't wait to get Riley in his new home, it makes 12 foot long Riley look small. (09/08/09)

Below is a young Asian water monitor we don't know if its male or female and is related to the Kamodo dragon so its going to be big (16/09/09)
