Sidney

Sidney came to stay with us in 2005 when his owner called Ferret Friends looking for help, he had an Adrenal tumour, and no vet in her area would carry out the operation, apart from one who said he would operate but if he found it was a right hand Adrenal tumour he would put Sidney to sleep without waking up, we are lucky to have a local vet which will do the operation, he did my ferret Fidget three years ago in 2003, because she lived a long distance away I said I would look after Sidney during treatment.

I saw the owner Maria and Sidney for the first time at the vets, Sidney had an extra problem a lump on his neck, which had not been identified by her vets, it was decided to do the operation and a biopsy on the lump at the same time, we took him back to my home and Maria enjoyed seeing my ferrets but very upset at leaving Sidney, especially because of the treatment he had coming up, she still had Sidney's brother and a Jill at home.

Sidney was with me a couple of days before he had the operation, which went well, even though it was the more difficult operation, a right hand Adrenal tumour, he was very bright after the operation and the scratching he had been suffering got better but after two weeks the scratching of the neck started to get worse, his fur did not start to re-grow and he stopped eating, I started him on our special food for sick ferrets, chicken gravy, things were going badly.

He went home but over the months he got worse and Maria had to make the decision to put him to sleep, the autopsy showed he had lymphoma, the biopsy did not show this.

I will always remember Sidney for the time he was with me.

Maria has contacted us this year in 2006 with the worse news, Sidney's brother has got an Adrenal tumour and has lost his coat, her little jill was not related to the boys.
