SHOW REPORTS 2009

Horndon-on-the-Hill (school fate)

This is the first time at this show and is just a stones throw away from the two day show later in the month picture above left shows our marquee, it was a typical school fate, most people are only interested in the competition for the pupils then they go home so we wasn't that busy, picture above right is us packing up, Clarence in the foreground who is Jenny's husband came to the show later in the day and helped pack up.

Wallsworth festival May 17th

When we got to the show ground, early on Sunday morning the heavens just opened up, the rain was so bad we thought if it carried on the show would be abandoned but we put the tent up anyway in the rain and after an hour it brightened up with just one shower all day.

This is the first show we have used the 30 foot marquee picture above left and I must say a big thank you to Mark who donated the marquee to Ferret Friends we desperately needed the extra room, I remember 10 years ago we used a 10 foot square tent, I don't know how we managed we will now use the 30 foot for the ferrets the 20 foot for the birds of prey or dogs and the 10 foot for our tea making facilities.

Picture above right shows a real team effort, Shirley is holding Marley, Jenny is giving him ferretone and Sue is cutting his nails, why all this fuss over one ferret, well Marley is a very lucky ferret he was found at the side of the road and taken to Ivy Lodge vets with a broken pelvis and because we do there open day they called us to look after him we didn't know if he would get better we just needed to give him time and lots of TLC, well he is better, doesn't walk perfect on the back end but we don't care nor does Jenny because he is going to live with her.

Picture above shows Dennis holding Ashley the Angora ferret and is just off on a walk around the show ground to let people know where the ferret tent is located.

Millennium centre Dagenham. June 7th

Canceled due to weather

Blackwater June 14th

This is our first time at Blackwater and it turned out to be very sunny and hot which was not good for the animals, we put the generator behind the tents and run fans to help keep them cool.

We have a lot more dogs coming to the shows this year with the people that help out, the picture above left shows the 30 foot tent with the ferrets in it and the 20 foot tent to the right just for the dogs we had two Wolfhounds two Borzoi two Rough Collies and one Whippet.

Picture above right shows Ashley being given a cool bath it was hot for all the ferrets but Ashley being an Angora with a lot more coat suffered the most and started to open his mouth, to cool down, after his cold bath he was much happier we all keep a close watch on the ferrets at the shows on hot days in case of heat stoke.

Picture left shows Sophie holding Polo she managed to persuade her dad to bring her to the tent four times during the day because she loved the ferrets, which was good going considering the show was spread over a wide area because of this we didn't think we would have lots of people in the tent at anyone time but they had a train going around the show and it slowed up just outside our tent before it took the turn so people knew where we were.

Hatfield Heath. June 21st

The weather was overcast at Hatfield Heath but stayed dry all day picture above left shows the start of the racing the show ring was large and lots of people wanted to place a bet which meant I had to talk for some time, picture above right shows Dennis about to win the race with my ferret Evil.

Picture above left shows Dennis letting three girls hold a ferret and picture right shows Peter letting a girl hold the little owl and the boy hold the barn owl, the birds of prey are always a popular attraction with the public.

Picture left is Nicky holding Ashley she came to visit us in the ferret tent and fell in love with the ferrets, we had a very good day here although I don't think it was as busy as last year we actually got to pack up when we were supposed to at 5pm, last year we had to ask the public to let us pack up at 6pm.

Horndon-on-the-Hill June 27th/28

Picture above right is first thing in the morning when we were setting up and above left is just as the public started to arrive we have balloons all over the tent because it was Shirley's birthday on the day of the show.

Pictures above right and left is Shirley's birthday cakes made by Jenny with ferrets and her mum, one Albino and one Polecat they looked really good and tasty to.

Picture above left is Clarence with his two new baby's and if you are wondering why he is holding a hedgehog soft toy a member of the public gave it to him for the baby's, and picture above right is Dennis who is eating some birthday cake watched by gizmo the little owl.

Robin Hood country show July 4th/5th

Picture above left is our tent, you can see the fans we had running which gave the new generator a good try out in the heat picture above right shows the racing, we did have lots of people watch the racing but this picture was taken on Sunday at the 4pm race and a lot of people had started to go home.

Picture above left shows Shirley holding Bell and Angel talking to the public with Laura in the hat and picture above right shows two vet nurses holding Wiley on the left and Evil on the right.

Wiley's Vet open day Upminster July 12th

Today we split up because we had two shows most of us went to Orsett where there was racing, and at this show it was me Eddy and Karina because Eddy and Karina haven't been to any shows this year, it was nice to work with them at this show again, Karina sat outside and let children sit on the chair and hold a ferret, me and ED did the tent, Picture left shows Eddy with 12 year old Cupcake we got vet Ray Butcher to look at a swelling on Cupcakes rear which he said was anal glands and because she was so old to leave it alone unless it started to cause a problem, picture above right is our tent, I wasn't going to take any pictures because I forgot my camera but at the end of the day after the show had finished I thought I would try my phone but considering the camera doesn't even get into mega pixels it didn't do a bad job, we left the tent up and me and Peter will pack it away tomorrow.

Orsett in Bloom, Orsett. July 12th

Because I was not at this show I would like to thank Dennis for sending me the pictures above left shows the ferret tent being set up and above right shows Peter letting a lady stroke Hedweg the Snowy owl.

Picture above left shows two members of the public holding Barn Owls and above right is a picture of everyone at the show having a barbecue after the show had finished.
